I’m moving my blog. Really I just wanted to change the name and the focus of the blog.

With the new name, “Red Harring,” I still wish to cover moronic people but also the moronic things people do in our world.

The new blogspot blog is there to hopefully increase readership.

There will be no further posts here. All previous posts will be moved and reposted with their original dates.

Ethanol Fuel & You

Posted in Hypocricies, Observations, Points, Rants on May 9, 2008 by RealDF

Why I Hate Michael Stephens: he isn’t here to help me drink my precious ethanol.

:. As most of you know (because not everyone can be a moron), there is only a finite amount of gasoline and fossil fuels left on this planet; so we must start looking for alternatives… renewable alternatives… that don’t harm the atmosphere… and are cheap… and transportable… …am I missing anything?

Ethanol, somehow, became a focus with regards to new liquid fuels. Ethanol is a type of alcohol (the type we drink to get drunk) and it can be burned in a similar fashion to gasoline. Actually, many gas stations that you or I would visit today provides gas that contains up to 10% Ethanol in it. Nice thing about Ethanol is that it can be made from many different things: sugar cane, bagasse, miscanthus, sugar beet, sorghum, grain sorghum, switchgrass, barley, hemp, kenaf, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, sunflower, fruit, molasses, corn, stover, grain, wheat, straw, cotton, and the list goes on.

Watch this video about ‘How Ethanol Is Made.’

But there are some REALLY big problems with Ethanol and it is starting to show in business and the economy.

1) Instead of eating our food… we’re turning it into liquid fuel. This is driving food prices up and making it more difficult for the average person to simply survive. NYTimes.com Article: Fuel Choices, Food Crises and Finger-Pointing by Andrew Martin.

2) Gasoline generates about 125,000 BTUs per gallon. Ethanol generates about 76,000 BTUs per gallon. Ethanol produces 60.8% of the power of gasoline (source). This means we will need more fuel to accomplish the same task which means we have to produce even more Ethanol. It is not a perfect, straight substitute. You need roughly 1.6 gallons of ethanol to equal the power of 1 gallon of gasoline.

3) Although this is said to change, but right now it takes more energy to produce the Ethanol than what you get in return. So there is a net energy loss in the manufacturing process. WTF is that?! People support this?

4) If we were to seriously try and eliminate our use of liquid fossil fuels, think about how much land we would need in order to grow and manufacture enough fuel for everyone who wants it. The ecological footprint would be enormous; much larger than any westerner is making right now.

5) For some, ethanol is suppose to be a way to escape the CO2 pollution from fossil fuels. When burned, ethanol produces 21% less CO2 than gasoline. When ethanol is produced, it creates a large amount of CO2. So there is little to no benefit to the environment by using ethanol.

Video for points 4 & 5.

So… we don’t need food and we definitely don’t need rationalization. We need fear of running out of gas and burning up the Ozone layer. We don’t need public education of ethanol fuel and just completely screw the idea of a small ecological footprint.

The poor who cannot afford food will die. More land will be used (and will increase with population) in order to make a liquid fuel. The atmosphere will still be slowly dying.

Fuck these uneducated, overambitious, cocky, NGO “environmentalists” who have terrorized the globe and bullied the world into thinking than ethanol is some magical cure. If anything, ethanol will make more problems than… well, it won’t actually be solving anything… let’s just leave it in our drinks and escape this terrifying, NGO created world.

We do need to find some sort of easily transportable energy/fuel source, but ethanol is not it.

Environmentalists Still Can’t Get It Right

Now that another Earth Day has come and gone, let’s look at some environmentalist predictions they would prefer we forget.

At the first Earth Day celebration, in 1969, environmentalist Nigel Calder warned, “The threat of a new ice age must now stand alongside nuclear war as a likely source of wholesale death and misery for mankind.”

C.C. Wallen of the World Meteorological Organization said, “The cooling since 1940 has been large enough and consistent enough that it will not soon be reversed.”

In 1968, professor Paul Ehrlich, former Vice President Al Gore’s hero and mentor, predicted that there would be a major food shortage in the U.S. and “in the 1970s . . . hundreds of millions of people are going to starve to death.”

Ehrlich forecast that 65 million Americans would die of starvation between 1980 and 1989, and that by 1999 the U.S. population would have declined to 22.6 million.

Ehrlich’s predictions about England were gloomier: “If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000.”

In 1972, a report was written for the Club of Rome warning that the world would run out of gold by 1981, mercury and silver by 1985, tin by 1987 and petroleum, copper, lead and natural gas by 1992.

Gordon Taylor, in his 1970 book “The Doomsday Book,” said Americans were using 50% of the world’s resources and “by 2000 they (Americans) will, if permitted, be using all of them.”

In 1975, the Environmental Fund took out full-page ads warning, “The World as we know it will likely be ruined by the year 2000.”

Harvard biologist George Wald in 1970 warned, “Civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind.” That was the same year that Sen. Gaylord Nelson warned, in Look magazine, that by 1995 “somewhere between 75% and 85% of all the species of living animals will be extinct.”

It’s not just latter-day doomsayers who have been wrong; doomsayers have always been wrong.

In 1885, the U.S. Geological Survey announced that there was “little or no chance” of oil being discovered in California, and a few years later they said the same about Kansas and Texas.

In 1939, the U.S. Department of the Interior said American oil supplies would last only another 13 years. In 1949, the secretary of the interior said the end of U.S. oil supplies was in sight. Having learned nothing from its earlier erroneous claims, in 1974 the U.S. Geological Survey advised us that the U.S. had only a 10-year supply of natural gas. The fact of the matter, according to the American Gas Association: There’s a 1,000- to 2,500- year supply.

Here are my questions:

In 1970, when environmentalists were making predictions of man-made global cooling and the threat of an ice age and millions of Americans starving to death, what kind of government policy should we have undertaken to prevent such a calamity?

When Ehrlich predicted that England would not exist in the year 2000, what steps should the British Parliament have taken in 1970 to prevent such a dire outcome?

In 1939, when the Department of the Interior warned that we only had oil supplies for another 13 years, what actions should President Roosevelt have taken?

Finally, what makes us think that environmental alarmism is any more correct now that they have switched their tune to man-made global warming?

Here are a few facts:

More than 95% of the greenhouse effect is the result of water vapor in Earth’s atmosphere. Without the greenhouse effect, Earth’s average temperature would be zero degrees Fahrenheit.

Most climate change is a result of the orbital eccentricities of Earth and variations in the sun’s output. On top of that, natural wetlands produce more greenhouse-gas contributions annually than all human sources combined.

correcting exams

Posted in Observations on April 22, 2008 by RealDF

Why I love Michael Stephens: he is not one of these goddamn morons who can’t think their way out of a wet paper bag. Fuck these functioning retards.

:. It is exam season and as expected, people are stressed. People often get into a groove. Usually what happens is people stop thinking and then they do stupid things. They will ask questions they already know the answer to.

One of my favourite things to do is while writing the exam, is to wait for Captain Observant Sonuvabitch to correct a minor mistake the prof made when the exam was written.

There are a few general mistakes that students love to correct:

1) A numerical error (this applies directly to a scan-tron sheet exam). There are two question 20’s. There is no question 21, but there is question 22. This, somehow, halts many students in their tracks. And when you think about it, just because the student who corrected the prof may be one of the first to encounter this error, does not mean they are the smartest. One exception is when the question order is: 20, 20, 21, 22, 23… <- this is the only time I would EVER ask a prof about what to do. On a “circle the right answer exam,” I keep going.

2) A minor spelling error. “teh” instead of “the” is the most unbelievable mistake that had been brought forward to the class. A student, I have no idea how, could not figure out that “teh” = “the.” Other mistakes are when there is one letter missing but the word still could not be anything else. “Planearium, hocey, jumpng” and yes, it can be that bad.

After all this, the prof usually Thanks the student for bringing this to their attention and then having to share this with the others writing the exam. And in the rare case, (and I think this is complete bullshit btw) sometimes the student who reported the mistake first is rewarded a bonus mark (why reward the first person who trips over a little mistake, who obviously was forced to stop and open their worthless mouth). I think the prof is actually saying in their head, “Where the fuck is Little Billy’s reasoning skills?” If the triangle won’t fit in the circular hole, try something else.

These minor corrections have escalated to the point where one of my profs goes through the exam several times the days leading up to the exam and on the exam to find ANY numerical, spelling, punctuation, or formating errors and then report them at the beginning of the exam to keep dumb students (like Captain Observant Sonuvabitch) from wasting their own god damn time. I applaud her. Cheers to you ESA!

ignorance is not a shield; poor Kiki

Posted in Stupid Fucking People, W.T.F. on April 18, 2008 by RealDF

Why I Hate Michael Stephens: he takes five steps and crosses a legal line.

On April 4th, 2008, there was a dog seen (basically) beaten to death. The dog, Kiki, later had to be put down because of her injuries.

Note: I have seen a different spelling of his name, Qi Lu.

http://www.canada.com/windsorstar/news/local/story.html?id=4e60bf9d-7a5c-4539-9734-08a445ca5bab&k=366

WINDSOR — The university student who horrified onlookers by choking his four-month-old Husky, before kicking it and slamming it against a fire hydrant, said he was just trying to train the puppy.

When police found the dog, named Kiki, it had multiple broken bones including all four legs.

Officers also seized a coffee table leg from the man’s home that police believe was used to beat the dog, judging by the chunks of hair embedded in it.

“I didn’t know that’s cruel to animals. I’m an international student, so I didn’t know you have a law against cruelty to animals.”

Li said he doesn’t deserve jail time. He said he was using force to train the dog.

The maximum penalty for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal is a $2,000 fine and/or six months in jail.

:. I am not an animal rights activist but I do love animals. But I think this is more than just an animal issue.

Qu Li said he was trying to train the dog when he hit Kiki. So basically, what’s next? His significant other? His children? His peers? Will he hit them when they aren’t learning fast enough or do something Qu Li finds inappropriate? He took a 4 month old Alaskan Husky puppy and beat it to death. This boy has fucked up big time! Qu Li probably doesn’t go outside anymore. Half the people I’ve talked to about this want his blood. This puppy could not escape. This puppy could not fight back. This puppy probably had no one looking out for her to help her when things were at their worst. Kiki could not call the police or run away. Think about it: how different is this from child abuse or spousal abuse? You know what, I think he would be in more trouble if Qu Li were a guard in prison beating an inmate.

There is another issue that comes up with his statements of being unaware of Canada’s Animal Cruelty laws. He is from China and very likely English is not his first language, so there is a language barrier there. But then you have to look at his occupation: he is a business student. He is a student first off and probably should have learned of Canadian laws, social and cultural norms (not change who he is but at least be aware). Second, he is in a business program that I’m sure deals with Canadian business laws. Ignorance is not a shield. If I go to China and beat the crap out of people, I should not be able to say, “Oh, I didn’t know you had a law against FUCKING STOMPING OUT CHINKS!!!”

He beat his dog and probably didn’t feel a thing. When the dog had to be put down, he was probably more worried about his own hide. I call that being a monster. I hope Qu Li gets the maximum charge for this or is departed back to China. I also hope that the University of Windsor kicks him out. I wouldn’t want someone who is capable of beating a living creature in that fashion going to my school. Who or what is next?

He was training her?… let’s go train him ourselves. We should get Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction).

the Grammar Police Strike again… but with good cause

Posted in Observations, Stupid Fucking People on March 18, 2008 by RealDF

QUIT BASTARDIZING OUR LANGUAGE!!!

Why I Hate Michael Stephens: he is a post-op tranny.

:. NB: St. Patty’s Day Drunk. I am trying my best (although my best would be when I am sober, but fuck that).

I’m sure plenty of you read online forum posts and see MANY spelling a grammar errors. The most common I run into are “your” & “you’re.” Understandable. Two characters difference from one to another (” & e ” and ” [nothing]“). “Your” meaning ‘you are in possession of something. “You’re” meaning “you are”; you’re = you are. Very simple. Is it OK to let something like this go? I say “No!” Another common mistake is: There, Their, & They’re. There = a location or place. Their = possession of something (This is their book.) They’re = They Are.

We let one error slide and soon other errors will follow. Language as we experience it now (which at times is terrible (not just language but usage)) will cease to exist as a viable form of proper communication. English is not what it once was.

A GREAT example is the word ’skeet.’ Before it was used by rappers, a ’skeet’ was a clay disk that was used in a sport called ‘trap shooting’ or ’skeet shooting.’ It is thrown by a device like a frisbe and floats in the air while someone shoots the ’skeet’ usually with a shotgun. Now, ’skeet’ means: cum, male ejaculate, semen, what ever the fuck you want to call it.

I feel I must say though that I do like how rappers found ways around censorship. The word ’skeet’ was unknown by censors for a long while. It was great! Do NOT censor yourself; something I wish I could do in real life instead of on this blog.

So, written and spoken language errors are a problem (forum posts and slang words). It is one thing to be using slang in written and spoken language but be aware of the proper spoken and written language. There is a reason they call it Slang. It is not proper and (for the love of god) will never be proper. Why? Look at the different forms of slang on the internet (this is a good base because you are on the internet right now reading this post) and tell me: why won’t the use of ‘lol’ (law-l) be a proper use of speech? If you were fighting for your (See? Possession. You are in control of YOUR life) right to live and be free, would you use the words leet, skeet, or rolf? I’m telling you now, the answer is NO. You would demonstrate YOUR knowledge and ability to communicate in a proper way.

Slang is fine, but know how to speak the language it is based on first.

From http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ain’t

As a substitute for am not, is not, and are not in declarative sentences, ain’t is more common in uneducated speech than in educated, but it occurs with some frequency in the informal speech of the educated, especially in the southern and south-central states. This is especially true of the interrogative use of ain’t I? as a substitute for the formal and—to some—stilted am I not? or for aren’t I?, considered by some to be ungrammatical, or for the awkward—and rare in American speech—amn’t I? Some speakers avoid any of the preceding forms by substituting Isn’t that so (true, the case)? Ain’t occurs in humorous or set phrases: Ain’t it the truth! She ain’t what she used to be. It ain’t funny. The word is also used for emphasis: That just ain’t so! It does not appear in formal writing except for deliberate effect in such phrases or to represent speech. As a substitute for have not or has not and—occasionally in Southern speech—do not, does not, and did not, it is nonstandard except in similar humorous uses: You ain’t heard nothin’ yet! See also aren’t.

L2Communicate.

AND, I ask that if I have made ANY spelling or grammatical errors in this post, please make a comment so it can be corrected. Thank you

Happy New Years!

Posted in Thoughts on January 1, 2008 by RealDF

Why I Hate Michael Stephens: despite being a pre-op tranny, he’s still a man and men know what’s best.

NB: New Years drunk, but I still feel this post has some substance to it.

:. From every being of my soul, I wish a Happy New Years to everyone out there. To people I know and those I don’t, people I like and those I hate, I wish the greatest things onto you.

Take up some New Years resolutions and sick to them. Write them down, type them up and print them off and put them where you will see them every day. Better idea, put them where you will only see them occasionally so you won’t ignore them Every Day. Don’t make huge goals for yourself. You can always change these goals into some better and greater. How can anyone be angry at you for going further than you said you would? Start small. I’m making the resolution to go to the gym at least once a week or go for a two hour walk once a week AND to watch my food intake in this new year. Many will say I look good but really I am an overweight gentleman who is tired of being in such bad shape. I have the structure to be a large, fit man and look amazing. I know this but I have only recently found the drive to do something about it. I want everyone to find two things from this past year 2007, something they are proud of and something they are ashamed or unhappy with. Enjoy, flourish with what you are proud of and take that feeling with you to your sense of shame. Build on it. Fix this sense of shame and be happy with yourself.

Moving on. No one in this life asks for unhappiness or struggle or pain in their life. Everyone needs for someone to believe in them. To those who do read this lame blog (and I do see when people check it out, even though it’s probably just one person checking up on it), find someone important in your life, someone you believe in and have faith in and really show your appreciation for this person (and I don’t want anyone showing appreciation to me for this past year. lots of growing and experience this year. great learning happened. And this post is not my way of asking for personal, direct attention). So Michael Stephens, not a word about this blog unless is about the content which I’m about to get to.

New Years is a time for change; it’s built into us for a change. New Year, new thoughts. New Years, new ways. It’s NEW. Do something new or at the very least, something you haven’t done in a long time. Watch all you old favourite kids’ movies from Peter Pan to The Sandlot. Make yourself HAPPY. Often enough, people who are happy move forward. Let us better ourselves people.

Inevitably, life is full of regrets, let’s try and keep those to a minimum… just don’t go rape or kill anyone.

PS: sorry for anything obviously wrong here (grammar and sentence completion wise, it’s almost 5am on new year’s day and im dunk.

Diplomacy

Posted in Observations, Stupid Fucking People with tags , , , on November 8, 2007 by RealDF

Why I Hate Michael Stephens. Reason #3: He can talk his way into and out of any situation.

:. From city to city, locale to locale, group to group, I notice one thing… diplomacy.

Everywhere, people get along with no problems and are quite able to talk to one another with little to no problems arising. People know the limits with one another and respect them; they do not push them and never hope to ruin their day.

Yeah right.

I consider myself a reasonable person who likes to see my various group of friends get along; who likes to see everyone get along. The less we react to people and their words and attitudes I think the better. Emotion can really get in the way of getting along. Misunderstandings arise and terrible relationships are the results. Hearing what you want to hear is never a good thing.

You might be thinking, “So no more emotion?” No. This is not what I’m saying. There are times when you HAVE to deal with someone WITHOUT yelling, screaming, shouting, and name-calling. This aggression that we can have towards people can sometimes come quick and be uncontrollable. So stop it! Emotion is a great thing but just like our drinking, or other harmful habits, we need to be able to control them. Remember, “A Man chooses, a Slave obeys.” – Andrew Ryan (Bioshock). Which are you?

Get a hold of yourself people! Yes, there are times when you are allowed to be angry but know when that is. Angry Person vs. Angry Person… nobody wins. Pick your times to be angry and know when not to be. Patience is a virtue.

Take Note: Anger is not the only option and should be a last option. Listen and understand, just don’t hear and react. Don’t be a slave to your emotions.

Learn to use yourself. Now fuck off and control yourself.

The Most Dangerous People…

Posted in Rants with tags , , , on November 4, 2007 by RealDF

Why I hate Michael Stephens. Reason #2: He cheers for the losing team just so he can suck my balls.

:. WARNING!! We all know someone like this; someone who hands out advice. This isn’t just regular advice, it’s ‘great’ advice! We all know someone who could: write a better script, make the political system run more smoothly, … protect our society from the garbage we see in the media and on our streets.

I am talking of a sort of know-it-all. A Know-it-all… who knows best.

I will admit right now that I am one of them. Fuck, look at this blog. It’s about how I am right and people are wrong. Hypocritical? Yes. But fuck you, I’m right.

Anyway, a ‘Know-it-all who knows best’ can be one of the most danger people in the world. They only see the whole picture of anything that could possibly happen along with any outcome and everything that every individual could ever want. They make decisions, good decisions, based on logic with zero personal feelings or opinions attached and all of this done with 100% good faith behind them; bias free.

Obviously, no one in the world is like this. Everyone has a bias to them no matter how good natured they are. Put in power, every one of you would make the world into something that you see as good.

Here is an idea, imagine you’re an influential politician for an afternoon. Shape the world into something you see as a Perfect World. Change whatever you want in our society. What does it look like? Is everyone happy? Is everyone living the way they want to? Really think about it! Do you know what’s best for the person sitting next to you? Or for a person off in another city or country? My bet is you don’t.

These ‘Know-it-alls who know best’ are our future politicians, artists, and protesters. They preach what they believe to be what’s best for everyone. They comment on other’s likes and dislikes and when likes and dislikes clash, they feel the need to let you know that you are “wrong.”

Here is the odd thing. They say free thought and expression is great, but do they let you freely express when your opinions differ? No. They can NOT sit back quietly and listen to opinion that isn’t their own. Why? Because they know what’s best. In order to function around them, expression is limited and you yourself cannot demonstrate superior knowledge so as not to have a two hour discussion about how [insert random topic] good/bad and not to be made fun of or humiliated.

These people do not know what’s best. They only know what they’ve been told is best.

To all the ‘Know-it-alls who know best’: Get out of your own ass. You don’t know shit. Research before opening your god damn mouth. Stop filling our streets with your fuckin’ “wisdom.”

Get out of my way

Posted in Stupid Fucking People with tags on October 22, 2007 by RealDF

Why I hate Michael Stephens. Reason #1 - He is never wrong and is always right.

:. I went grocery shopping today after a week without food and I was walking down an aisle and a woman with her elderly mother were there getting some things. They’re taking up at least half of the aisle with their cart and there is a little bin of shit there to. I try to get by without disturbing them. I tap the woman’s purse lightly with the shopping cart and that is enough to get her going.

I am a man that stands 6′2″ and is broad enough. There is no way you could miss me when you are looking in my direction and I am one of three people in the aisle.

The woman loudly says, “Excuse me?” What I should have said was, “You saw me coming.” And ideally, “If you couldn’t get out of the way fast enough, lose some weight.”

The point I want to make is: be courteous. I’m not saying go out of your way for everyone to happen upon in your life, but if you see someone coming your way and you can make room for them to pass, make room.

This is the same sort of thing with people on sidewalks. I notice this mostly with Asians and brown people. They walk 3, 4, or even 5 abreast down a sidewalk leaving YOU to either: walk on the street, find a spot out of the way to stop and let them pass, or walk right through their group.

People, please, for the love of all that is good, be courteous to others before they can make you feel wronged.
